The Tri­Mentoring Program is partnering with the City Adult Learning Centre (CALC) and Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office (TNO) to provide academic support through helping high school students with their homework and sharing their experiences as post secondary students at Ryerson University.

Volunteers will participate in specialised training to assist high school students with Math, Science or English at locations external to Ryerson University that are subway accessible​ within about 45 minutes of the Ryerson campus. Refreshments will be provided​ for volunteers at the City Adult Learning Centre and Thorncliffe Neighbourhood Office.

Application Requirements:

  • Resume and cover letter
  • Completed Vulnerable Sector Check ­ Forms to be collected from the TMP office
  • Courteous, open, reliable, patient, non­judgemental and non­discriminatory

Volunteer Duties:

  • One on one and small group math tutoring
  • Monitor and track participants’ progress
  • Communicate regularly with TMP student/full time staff about participants’ progress

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in one or all of the following subjects:
  • High School level Math, Science, English
  • Possess a deep appreciation for education and its empowerment capabilities for

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation to the program to be provided by TMP student/full time staff and any other relevant partners
  • Regular check­ins to support tutors and address any areas of concern identified by tutors
  • Tutors will be encouraged to attend monthly meetings where tutors can provide/receive any feedback

Volunteer Expense Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for the upfront cost of their Vulnerable Sector Check but will be refunded​ for this cost upon verification by TMP full time staff of a clear and completed Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Blank Vulnerable Sector Check forms are to be collected from the Tri­Mentoring Office.

Time Commitment

  • Two sessions a month in each of the fall and winter semesters for a total of 6 sessions. (Must have 3 sessions per semester)
